Take a chance on a domain that has a bad history
We have developed this search application about two months ago. We started to use the Google Adwords to test the application in early December by using various domain names in our possession.
Two things we got from this exercise are worth consideration. The domains we used are not effective to the application and one of the best keywords for the application is “Search The Web”. Thus, we began to hunt for a good domain name to use. The ideal domains should be SearchTheWeb.com or WebSearch.com but these domains had been long gone. We were very surprised when SearchTheWeb2.com was available. We bought it without a delay on sale at $ 6.99 on the Christmas day.
We used WayBack Machine to look back into its history. It was indeed used a short time in 2005 but it had already made a name itself. Actually, we still believe it has a bad history because of this.
We set SearchTheWeb2.com on live on December 31, 2005 and by the next day, it was in Google index. By January 2, 2007 the index was gone. Yesterday, it was back with a full index.
